Description

The Full Moon rising over 5400 ft Kohala Mountain the day after the eclipse.

Camera: Sony NEX7 with 55mm lens
Fixed tripod

Kohala Mountain is the dividing line between the wet part and dry part of the northern region of Hawaii island. The moist sea air rises on the East side of the mountain and drops its moisture along the slopes, creating many beautiful waterfalls and lush rainforest. The clouds stop at the top of the mountain which results in the Western part to be dry desert area, with over 320 days of sunshine per year. This dry area has very low population density and along with that an absence of light pollution. Local ordinances require all outdoor lights to be off after 10pm. On Moonless nights the Milky Way dominates the sky above, and is visible year round.
